Draw magnetic field lines around a bar magnet.

Answer 1

Both, bar magnet as well as magnetic compass have magnetic field. A compass needle, when brought near a bar magnet, their magnetic field lines interact with each other, showing the deflection in needle.

List the properties of magnetic lines of force.

Answer 2

Properties of magnetic lines of force/magnetic field lines are as below

• No two magnetic field lines can ever intersect with each other.
• The direction of the magnetic field lines inside the magnet is from South pole to North pole and outside from North to South.
• The magnetic lines leave the North pole and enter the South pole.
• The magnetic field lines are dense near the pole that’s why the magnetic field is strong.
• They always form a closed loop.

Why don’t two magnetic lines of force intersect each other?

Answer 3

The law of Physics says that, no two field-lines are found to cross each other. If they did, it would mean that at the point of intersection, the compass needle would point towards two directions, which is not possible.
