Exercise number-1

Question 1
What did Nishad give Mr Nath? Why?

Answer 1

Nishad gave Mr Nath a bar of chocolate because he thought that Mr Nath was very hungry.

Question 2
What is "strange" about Mr Nath’s Sundays?

Answer 2
The strange thing about Mr Nath’s Sunday was that Ramesh carried two lunches to Mr Nath’s room almost every Sunday and the same man was with him each time. He was fair, stout, tall and wore spectacles. Ramesh said that Mr Nath hardly spoke anything but his visitor talked a lot.

Question 3
Why did Nishad and Maya get a holiday?

Answer 3
The streets were flooded due to rain that’s why Nishad and Maya got a holiday. Since it was a heavy downpour, no traffic could move through the flooded roads.

Question 1
What does Nishad find out about Mr Nath from Ramesh? Arrange the information as
suggested below.

  • What he eats
  • When he eats
  • What he drinks, and when
  • How he pays

Answer 1
Ramesh told Nishad that Mr Nath was not very particular about what he ate and it was always the same food that he ate- two chapattis, some dal and a vegetable. He used to have this same food two times i.e. in the morning and evening. Mr. Nath drinks tea once in the morning and once in the evening. Ramesh said that Mr Nath pays in cash and was also a generous tipper.

Question 2
Why does Maya think Mr Nath is a crook? Who does she say the Sunday visitor is?

Answer 2
Mr Nath had a strange appearance that’s why Maya thought that he was a crook. Mr Nath did not work but he always had money to pay for his meals and even gave tips. The tenants at the Shankar House said that Mr Nath was strange, mad and unfriendly. He sat all day in his room and nobody except a fair, spectacled and fat man visited him. He had no friends and she had a thought that he fears in making friends because someone might recognize him and inform the police. She thought the man that visited him is his accomplice in crime. She said that the visitor kept all the loot and would come to give a part of it to his partner for expenses.

Question 3
Does Nishad agree with Maya about Mr Nath? How does he feel about him?

Answer 3
No, Nishad did not agree with Maya about Mr Nath. He wanted to know the reason behind Mr Nath’s loneliness and he also wanted to know the reason of not having friends and why he lived alone. When Maya told Nishad that he did so because he fears that someone might recognize him and inform the police, Nishad replied by saying that perhaps no one even tried to make friends with him. He finally said that he like Mr Nath and will go and try to be friend with him. Maya’s theories did not make any impression on him.
