The author had a high opinion about Mr. Gessler as a bootmaker and the author knew that Mr. Gessler only make ordered boots and the boots that are made by him never fails to fit. Even the author felt of ordering such boots as Mr. Gessler seemed mysterious and wonderful.

The boots made by Mr. Gessler lasted for a long time that’s why the author visited the shop so infrequently.

Answer 3

The author told Mr. Gessler regarding a pair of shoes which earlier got creaked. Mr. Gessler did not believe this and looked at him for a time without replying as if he is waiting for the author to qualify the statement. After a few minutes, he said that the shoes should not have creaked and then asked the author to send back the boots and he would take them off his bill if he could do nothing to them.

What was Mr. Gessler’s complaint against ‘big firms"?

Mr. Gessler has a complaint against the big firms as they got customers only from advertising and not because of the quality. Mr.. Gessler loved his job, make good quality boots and due to people preferring big firms he had a very little work to do.

Why did the author order so many pairs of boots? Did he really need them?


Answer 5

The author ordered so many pairs of boots because he knew that Mr. Gessler makes good quality boots. Every single pair of boots was so good that it lasts for a long time. Mr. Gessler told the author that he loved his job and in spite of this he could not get much work. The reason behind this was people preferring to buy boots from big firms. Seeing Mr. Gessler’s struggle and hardship, the author decided to order many pair of boots even though he didn’t really need them.
